An infographic animation that outlines the issue of malaria and its impact around the globe, particularly on children in Africa. Every 45 seconds a child dies of malaria. However, each of these deaths is avoidable. Bed nets create a protective barrier against mosquito and prevent malaria transmission by 50%. Through creative and engaging visual storytelling, the animation hopes to raise awareness of the issue, challenge viewers to take action and make a difference.

The Telly Awards honor the very best local, regional and cable television commercials and programs as well as the finest video and film productions and work created for the web.

Environmental & Wildlife Filmmaking: Anacostia River Project

The documentary was created in collaboration with the Center for Social Media and MIT’s New Media Literacy project to create video exemplars intended to help educators explore the skills needed to create new media with their students, and to be used as models to help students create their own exemplars.

Champions to End Malaria

The animation weaves together portraits taken by world-renowned photographer Platon and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals messaging to highlight champions who are helping save lives by preventing malaria. It premiers on Times Square Toshiba Visions screen on World Malaria Day 2011 and travels around the U.S. through a larger-than-life, interactive mobile exhibit in 2011.

America’s Energy Future

The short documentary puts a human face on the environment by featuring stories about how increasing America’s renewable energy use will benefit the environment, national security and economic growth. A cross section of America’s farmers, ranchers, forestland owners, and policy leaders from Colorado, Vermont, Washington, and the national’s capitol discusses America’s energy future. It’s selected at the 2011 DC Environmental Film Festival and shown on Link TV’s Earth Focus special program.

Sévres Then And Now: Tradition and Innovation in Porcelain, 1750-2000 is the first exhibition in America to present together the earliest Sèvres pieces alongside the contemporary works of the 20th and 21st centuries, and to explore fully how continuous innovation propelled Sévres to become the preeminent porcelain factory. The video is displayed as part of the exhibition at Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens from October 20, 2009 — May 30, 2010. It documents the creation of an historic 18th-century dessert table made of sugar sculpture by food historian and designer Ivan Day. Adrienne Frank wrote about the project on American Today.

The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions. They have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world’s poorest. The Public Service Announcement (PSA) was shown on the Toshiba Vision screen in Times Square during the UN MDG Summit in September 2010.

Help the UN Help Haiti

At the time of the 2010 Haiti quake, the United Nations had over 12,000 personnel on the ground. UN agencies faced the difficult transition to aid in the search, rescue and recovery efforts in the country, while confronting major personal losses of friends and colleagues. The PSA shows images of the UN helping Haiti in the time of need. It was featured on Idol Gives Back website around the time of a special American Idol results show aired on February 25, 2010.

Thank a Peacekeeper

Peace is a full time job. It’s protecting civilians, overseeing elections and disarming arms and combatants. The UN has over 100,000 peacekeepers on the ground – places others can’t or won’t go - doing things others can’t or won’t do. As part of the Better World Campaign’s “Thank a Peacekeeper” initiative, the PSA thanks UN peacekeepers for their service and sacrifice in bringing peace to the world.

Malaria Public Service Announcement

On May 1, 2006, Rick Reilly wrote about malaria in Sports Illustrated challenging each of his readers to donate at least $10 for the purchase of a bed net, which led to the creation of the Nothing But Nets campaign the same year. The PSA is hosted on Nothing But Nets website, which won Best Charitable Organization Nonprofit Web Site for the 11th Annual Webby Awards.

Mobile health enables the delivery of quality health to the farthest reaches of wireless networks in the developing world. Its mission is to catalyze and accelerate the emerging field of mobile health and to help move the needle in global efforts to reach the health-related UN Millennium Development Goals of reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, and combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. The video was unveiled at the 2010 GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
